[Virtual Class] Restorative Yoga Class for Cancer Patients and Caregivers

This weekly Restorative Yoga class consists of breathwork exercises, gentle restorative yoga poses, and meditation to reduce stress and anxiety. Breathwork allows one to embrace the present moment, while restorative yoga promotes relief from tension. The free class is specifically designed for cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers and is useful for all impacted by cancer.

The class is offered by Integrative Healing, a non-profit organization, focused on an integrative approach to cancer treatment to boost the healing of patients impacted by cancer.

The class is taught by Meera Chari, a certified yoga teacher. She has a deep understanding of patients who are going through different stages in their treatment and is able to adjust the class to meet their needs. The class size is small to facilitate close attention from the instructor. It is taught on Zoom online, to practice in the safety and comfort of your home.

Our series of Zoom online classes will meet eight times from September 13 to November 1, 2023. Each class includes a discussion on relevant topics (listed below) followed by gentle yoga and breathing exercises designed for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers.

All classes in the series are free but space is limited. Registration is required. Participation in the entire curriculum of eight classes is encouraged.

Participate in hands-on practice CPR & choking for infants and children.  This 2 ½ hour in-person class is recommended for parents and grandparents.  

Please also add and register your partner(s) if they plan to attend.  Session fee is $50 per person.  No children allowed and mask recommended during class.

Discusses and reviews the anatomy and physiology of stages of labor, coping and relaxation techniques, labor positions, strategies to promote labor progress and minimize discomfort and, medications and medical interventions.  This 3-hour virtual session ideal for expectant mothers, partners and parents, and offers interactive chat with live Q&A.  Taught by our Labor & Delivery nurses.  Session fee is $50 for partners or couples and/or entire family.  *Included is the Breastfeeding Basics/Express class for the price of one (Note: requires separate registration with promo code emailed after registering).  Recommended to be taken in the last trimester of pregnancy.  Only one (1) partner is required to register and as many family members can join on the Zoom link.

[Virtual Class] Oncology Exercise Class for Cancer Patients

Our Oncology Exercise Class is designed to help you feel better during and after cancer treatment. This class is available to El Camino Health Cancer Center patients who are currently receiving treatment and those who have completed treatment.

Research has demonstrated that those who exercise regularly experienced less fatigue. This is often a common side effect of cancer treatments. The sooner you start exercising, the better you’ll feel!

This program is available to El Camino Health Cancer Center patients who are currently receiving treatment and those who have completed treatment.

Prerequisite: Physical Therapy Evaluation

Participation begins with a one-on-one evaluation with an El Camino Health physical therapist. The physical therapist will evaluate your readiness for this exercise class and assign a level that is right for you. You can then join the weekly exercise class.

One-on-one evaluations are held at the Outpatient Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation (Mountain View) department in Park Pavilion, at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. every Monday. Please contact the Cancer Center to schedule an appointment at (650) 988-8338. Wearing a face mask during your evaluation with the physical therapist is required.

Nurturing Adolescent Emotions: A Parent’s Guide

The workshop is designed to help parents understand the emotional changes and challenges that come with adolescence, and how parents can provide support and create a safe space for expression, and addressing potential emotional challenges.

It will also cover how to identify signs of emotional distress, and how to differentiate them from typical behavior changes, when and how to seek professional help.

Speaker: Jill (Chih Mei) Chen-Kuendig, LMFT

Speaker Bio: Jill is a licensed Marriage and Family therapist with 25+ years of experience. Holding Doctoral and Master's degrees in Counseling Psychology and Clinical Psychology, she managed programs for Momentum for Mental Health and worked as a Behavioral Health therapist for El Camino Health. She co-founded Chinese American NAMI support and has served as a facilitator for many years. She also leads disaster mental health efforts for the American Red Cross, Her diverse background includes community agencies, hospitals, domestic violence shelters, and schools.

The webinar is conducted in Mandarin.
