This free, virtual class is one hour long and is offered frequently throughout each month.

PowerPoint Slide Presentation led by our Labor & Delivery nurse, reviewing information from admission to discharge and Maternity Units.  This 1-hour free virtual class offers interactive chat and live Q&A.  Recommended for those delivering at El Camino Health and to be taken in the 7th month to the early 9th month of pregnancy.

Session 1: 讀懂年長父母表達情感的方式

許多人的父母很少說「我愛你」、「對不起」或「我以你為榮」，而是端上一盤水果、問一句 「吃飽了沒？」，或說「你要再努力一點」。這些訊息常常讓人難以解讀：這是關心還是批評？ 該接受、回應，還是放下？這場講座將探討文化與家庭經驗如何塑造父母表達情感的方式，分享 讀懂言外之意的實用方法，以及當這些話仍然刺痛時，如何照顧自己的感受。

Session 2: 什麼時候該說，什麼時候該退一步？與年長父母建立健康的界線

設立界線不是拒絕父母，也不等於不孝；健康的界線，是良好親子關係的一部分。父母常會質疑 我們的價值觀、做事方式和決定，從工作、婚姻到孩子的教養都有。我們常常不知道該說出來、 該妥協，還是該退一步；若要同時照顧雙方父母，或身為獨生子女獨自承擔，更是難上加難。即 使已經做了很多，心裡仍感到愧疚。這場講座將透過生活實例，探討「孝」與「順」的差別、如 何溫和而堅定地表達需要，以及如何放下不必要的罪惡感。

Session 3: 當父母的選擇與我們的期待不同，該如何拿捏

父母有時會做出讓我們擔心的選擇：身體不舒服卻不肯看醫生、捨不得丟掉過期食物、不願搬 家，或避談未來的照顧安排。當我們為父母想要的，和父母自己想要的不一樣時，愛與尊重該如 何兼顧？這場講座將探討我們對「愛該是什麼樣子」的想像從何而來、尊重一個人的尊嚴與選擇 代表什麼，以及如何在照顧父母的同時，也不忽略自己的需要。

Session 1: “Understanding How Our Parents Express Feelings"

Many of us grew up with parents who rarely said "I love you," "I'm sorry," or "I'm proud of you." Instead, they offered food, asked "Have you eaten?", or said "Do better." These messages can be hard to decode: is it care or criticism? Should we accept it, respond, or let it go? We'll explore how culture and family history shape the way parents express feelings, practical ways to read between the lines, and how to care for ourselves when their words still hurt.

Session 2: "When to Speak Up, When to Step Back: Setting Healthy Boundaries with Our Parents"

Setting boundaries is not rejecting our parents or being unfilial; healthy boundaries are part of a healthy relationship. Parents often question our values, our choices, and the way we do things, from career and marriage to how we raise our children. It can be hard to know when to speak up, when to compromise, and when to step back. It's harder still when we're caring for two sets of parents, or carrying the load alone as an only child. Many of us feel guilty even when we're already doing a lot. Through everyday examples, we'll explore the difference between honoring our parents and simply obeying them, how to express our needs gently but firmly, and how to let go of guilt that doesn't help anyone.

Session 3: "Finding the Balance When Our Parents' Choices Differ from Ours"

Our parents sometimes make choices that worry us, like refusing to see a doctor when they feel sick, eating expired food, not wanting to move, or avoiding conversations about future care. When what we want for them differs from what they want for themselves, how do we balance love and respect? We'll explore where our ideas of "what love should look like" come from, what it means to honor a parent's dignity and choices, and how to care for our parents without losing sight of our own needs.
